Wolf Schweitzer's excellent history of the Carnes Arm, an arm created by an American inventor and sold to Germany and England following World War I.
The Carnes arm was controlled by Bowden Cable "triple control," and was difficult to master.
There have been efforts to update it with modern engineering, but I am aware of no products on the market yet.
