Dorrance Split Hook 1912 (Hosmer-Dorrance, Hosmer, Fillauer 5x and Variants)

This hook, and its current version, the Hosmer 5x and related variants, have been (in the United States) the most used prosthetic arm terminal device in history. Despite being characterized as nothing more than "Captain Hook," or "a rubber band and a hook on a stick," the simple elegance of this design has endured, and has yet to be replaced by any more modern technology.
